People participating in the ceremony will decorate their houses so that they are scary. Children or adults when out also dressed up as scary characters or any character they like. Go to any house they knock, the landlord has just opened the door and they will shout Trick or Treat (roughly translated for candy or being teased). Usually the host will give the kids candy to another house.
